WHO WE ARE

Youth Literacy Council

The Redwood City Youth Literacy Council consists of 9 teenage members from area high schools who work with libraries, schools, and library foundations to increase literacy rates in the community.

Youth for Literacy

A club called Youth for Literacy is an extension of the Youth Literacy Council. This club consists of additional members that conduct literacy and other charity work in the community. These club members need not be on the Council Board to participate.

Our Mission

The Youth Literacy Council will:

· create programs that promote literacy, a good environment within the family to promote literacy, and programs that assist youth in doing well in school such as STEM classes;

· provide libraries and library foundations feedback on needs in the community;

· gather volunteers to support fairs, events, and fundraisers that support literacy;

· recruit volunteers for literacy programs;

· run book and board game drives to support literacy programs and donations to children in the community, and

· coordinate with businesses and the community to partner with programs;

· provide other support as needed.

AWESOME SUCCESS with Magic Tree House Themed Zoom Party!!!

Virtual Zoom Book Party was a success!!! 💚💚💚 Our first ever virtual youth literacy event was so fun and lively! The kids were joined by their parents and siblings on zoom to participate in FUN mask-making crafts, unicorn cup crafts, dancing, and book discussions. We had four breakout rooms which rotated so all activities were completed. Everyone's enthusiasm added to the spectacular time of discussing  Magic Tree House ! We loved talking about magicians and unicorns with everyone.💚 We are so happy and grateful to have connected with the youth's love for reading through this event. Thank you to all who joined our magical mission! Beginning of the zoom! Planning with the team! Breakout rooms! A final thank you, featuring some awesome unicorn masks!
